เว็บไซต์กระทรวงการต่างประเทศ รายงานว่า พลเอก ประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา นายกรัฐมนตรี ได้มีสารแสดงความยินดีถึงนาย ถิ่น จอ ผู้แทนจากพรรคสันนิบาตแห่งชาติเพื่อประชาธิปไตย (National League for Democracy) ในโอกาสได้รับเลือกให้ดำรงตำแหน่งประธานาธิบดีเมียนมาอย่างเป็นทางการ ดังนี้

I have learnt, with great joy and admiration, of the results of the presidential elections of 15 March 2016, as well as Your Excellency’s short interview shortly thereafter, that this was a victory for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
